Professor Md. Fakrul Islam, Ph.D.

Professor Dr. Md. Fakrul Islam is the ‘Chairman’ (honorary for research and knowledge purposes) of Socioenvironmental Research Center Bangladesh (SRCB). Mr. Fakrul is working as a professor in the Department of Social Work at the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Mr. Fakrul completed his MBGPH degree from the American University of Sovereign Nations, Arizona, USA, in bioethics and global public health onAssessing Quality of Life of the Rural Elderly in Bangladesh” in 2016. Mr. Fakrul was awarded his PhD degree on “A Policy Measure for Optimal Water Resource Utilization and Alleviation of Socio-Environmental Problems in the Teesta River Basin, Bangladesh, and India” from the University of Tsukuba, Japan, in 2003. He completed his MESc degree from the same university on An Analysis of the Socio-Economic and Environmental Problems of the Teesta River Area, Bangladesh, in 1998. He also completed his MSS and BSS degrees in Social Welfare from the Institute of Social Welfare and Research at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 1989 and 1988, respectively. Mr. Fakrul was awarded many scholarships, such as the General Merit Scholarship in 1983, the General Merit Scholarship in 1985, the General Merit Scholarship in 1988, the MONBOSHO Scholarship in 1997–1999, the MONBUSHO Scholarship in 2000–2003, and the JSPS Fellowship for 2018–2019. Along with this, Mr. Fakrul has received many academic awards and recognitions from universities and centers. Before joining the Social Work Department, he served as a teacher in the Social Work Department at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet. Mr. Fakrul also has experience holding various chairs in academic institutions, institutes, councils, associations, Samiti, and organizations. During his professional life, he supervised hundreds of students pursuing their advanced degrees. He is still supervising the university teachers as they pursue PhD degrees from their respective departments or institutes. He published over two hundred articles, papers, books, and research articles on multidimensional issues and subjects. He chaired numerous national and international conferences and workshops in or outside of the country.
